I get asked many questions from my customers that want to know what size air conditioner they have at their home or office. Air conditioning technicians get most of our information from the nameplate located on the condensing unit outside if you have a split system central air conditioner. If you have a package unit you can follow the same instructions I will give you also. I have this picture so you can follow along and understand this easy and go over it. I hope this will help you understand more about your air conditioner for the do it yourself or just people that want to know all about their current air conditioner like size in tons or BTU’s. Refrigerant type and amount for those that want to charge their own air conditioner or just want to know how much refrigerant does my air conditioner hold?
This is a Lennox brand air conditioning condensing unit
M/N = Model number
13HPX = 13 seer unit (seasonal energy efficiency ratio)
048 = 4 ton condensing unit (12000 BTU per ton)
230 = 230 volt condensing unit
18 = single phase unit
S/N = Serial Number
1913H188804 = this will give us the year manufacturing 1/9/2013
HFC – 410A = the refrigerant that is used in this condensing system
9 LBS 11 OZS = this is what the factory charge is for installation and usually the max total refrigerant charge
Design Pressure Hi 446 Low 236 = this is what the factory has pressure tested to and please never use these pressures when charging you will hurt yourself!
Compressor
PH 1 = single phase
RLA = Run Load Amps (for checking amp draw while compressor is running)
LRA = Locked Rotor Amps (the amps the compressor draws during start)
Fan Motor
PH 1 = single phase
FLA 1.7 = Full load amps (what the condenser motor draws during run)
HP ¼ = Horse Power (this is a ¼ hp condenser motor)
Min CKT = (this is the minimum amp draw and equals 28.8)
Max Fuse Size 50 = (this is how we get the proper wire size and fuse for this condensing unit)
